GBUK Introducing Scott Paterson, Our New Senior Vice President  — Business IT Solutions

We are excited to announce the appointment of Scott Paterson as Senior Vice President – Business IT Solutions. With over 20 years’ experience in senior IT leadership roles, Scott will utilise his wealth of expertise to enhance GB’s technology in ways that empower our people to deliver superior client outcomes.

Scott joins Gallagher Bassett from QBE Insurance where he held senior leadership roles with global remits across the insurer’s IT operations; most recently as Head of Workplace, Networks & Collaboration (Acting) where he led 24/7 service teams across the UK, US, and APAC.  He has a proven track record of success leading a broad range of technology initiatives, built on a foundation acquired as an engineer leading infrastructure design and global programmes for Aviva.

Scott explains his vision for growing GB's technology landscape and building impactful partnerships:

How do you plan to build scalable IT solutions that meet the evolving needs of internal stakeholders and external clients in risk management?

When building scalable IT solutions, I think of the '5 Cs': collaboration, control, cost, communication and culture. Balancing these elements will help us create solutions that effectively meet the needs of internal teams and external clients while staying aligned with The Gallagher Way.

How do you ensure IT strategies align with business objectives and meet client needs?

I believe clients choose Gallagher Bassett knowing our focus on technology is key to our overall commitment to exceeding the expectations of our clients. Delivering on that commitment requires close alignment between our IT strategies, our business objectives and the outcomes we deliver for our clients. I believe achieving that alignment starts with actively listening — to both internal users within the company and external clients — and understanding their requirements. From there, we build a roadmap and categorise key themes that match our organisation’s IT strategy. If this plan resonates with stakeholders, we set clear priorities and milestones.

What innovations are you most excited to bring to our IT landscape to stay ahead in risk management, and how will they benefit our clients?

I am excited about the potential of automation to transform our IT landscape. By simplifying and automating processes, we can provide clients with more accurate, real-time data, improving their decision-making and overall performance.

I am equally excited about the possibilities with Generative AI. It could completely change how we process claims, assess risks and deliver insights, pushing us to the forefront of innovation in risk management.

What's your approach to fostering collaboration between IT teams and business units to ensure our technology supports the risk management objectives?

We cannot operate in silos — IT must engage directly with business units to understand their priorities and challenges. I believe in collaborative problem-solving, where we listen, challenge and refine solutions. Additionally, during a period of transformation, everyone must know what's happening, when and what support is available through effective business change management.

I advocate for building a feedback-driven culture where everyone's voice is heard. This way, we can continuously improve and ensure that our technology truly supports the overall risk management objectives.
