At Gallagher Bassett we are dedicated to nurturing talent, providing ample opportunities for professional development, and fostering a supportive and motivating work environment. Charlotte Mather's career journey is a testament to Gallagher Bassett's commitment to its employees' growth and success, here Charlotte shares her career journey so far:
I joined Gallagher Bassett at the start of 2020 as part of the administration team. My main responsibilities included managing and setting up new claims, as well as keeping the inbox organised. The Covid-19 pandemic brought about challenges, particularly with the high volume of claims. However, I effectively managed the increased workload by prioritising tasks and staying organised.
During this period, I took the initiative to assist the claims team in various ways. This included triaging initial notifications from customers to provide support and guidance during their difficult and stressful situations. I took charge of managing and scheduling visits for the Loss Adjusters, as well as aiding with any in-house queries. These experiences not only boosted my confidence but also enabled me to create comprehensive training manuals for system processes, benefiting both new team members and the administration team as a whole.
After starting as part of the administration team, I quickly progressed into a claims handler role. In this position, I gained valuable experience in handling property and commercial losses, learning the fundamentals of the process. I take pride in providing excellent customer service and ensuring that our clients' needs are met.
In 2023, I transitioned into a senior claims handler role, where I have had the opportunity to further expand my knowledge and skills. One area I have been able to contribute is in assisting with complaints, where I proactively identify and address issues before they escalate into formal complaints.
In my current position, I have a hybrid role that involves being a claims handler and taking care of one of our VIP clients. This entails not only overseeing the work of the Loss Adjusters but also closely monitoring timescales, SLAs, and maintaining a well-organised diary. I am entrusted with maintaining a strong relationship, meeting their specific requirements, and ensuring their claims are given top priority.
Outside of my day to day role I am also pursuing my Cert CILA examinations and BDMA qualification, which are important steps in my personal growth and professional development. These certifications will not only enhance my knowledge and skills but also open new opportunities for me in the future.
Mentoring is a passion of mine, as I find great fulfillment in sharing my knowledge and expertise with others. In the past, I have actively contributed to training team members on FNOL and new claims processes, providing training manuals, and conducting peril training. Furthermore, I have recently started being mentored by one of the Team Leaders, Hollie Ensor. Part of the training has enabled me to take on the responsibility of covering the role of Team Leader during periods when the regular Team Leader is on annual leave. This opportunity has allowed me to further develop my leadership skills and take on additional responsibilities within the team, including daily meetings, delegation of workflow, and team support.
I chose to work at Gallagher Bassett because of the abundant opportunities for career progression. Whether it’s through support for obtaining qualifications or potential career movements, the company truly values and encourages professional growth. One aspect that I particularly appreciate about Gallagher Bassett is their consistent recognition and praise. We are encouraged to acknowledge and celebrate our colleagues’ accomplishments and compliments. This is exemplified through initiatives like the Gallagher Way Award, which further fosters a positive and motivating work environment.
Gallagher Bassett, despite its size as a corporation, fosters a distinct atmosphere that resembles that of a close-knit family business. Here, individuals are not treated as mere numbers, but rather valued members of the organisation. One aspect that I particularly appreciate is the company's commitment to encouraging and supporting young professionals. This is exemplified by my brother, who also works for Gallagher Bassett, being nominated for the Young Achiever Award. Such recognition demonstrates the company's dedication to nurturing and advancing
