In this article Joshua shares how a recommendation from his dad allowed him to develop a career within Gallagher Bassett.

I joined Gallagher Bassett in 2017 after being referred by my dad, who had joined the previous year. With no prior experience in the industry and unsure of my career path, joining Gallagher Bassett has provided me with numerous professional opportunities and a clear career path for me.

Initially, I started as a trainee claims adjuster, where I learned the fundamentals of handling motor claims, particularly uninsured loss recovery claims. I quickly advanced to become a level 2 claims adjuster and then a level 3 claims adjuster. In these roles, I gained knowledge in handling third party claims, including vehicle damage, property damage, and basic personal injury claims. This experience allowed me to progress further to a level 4 claims adjuster, where I began handling more complex personal injury claims.

In 2023, I transitioned to my current position as a level 5 claims adjuster, where I have focused on casualty claims. This new role has also seen me tasked with updating the cost strings of claims when requested by a leading logistics client who have also given me the responsibility to run site closure reports, this entails reviewing all the claims on the lists provided to make sure all documentation is available on their system in case a claim is submitted.

Progression is encouraged at Gallagher Bassett and throughout my career, I have been given the opportunity to not only develop in my roles but also build out my knowledge and skillset, which the business has actively supported.

The development provided by Gallagher Bassett has allowed me to become one of the more experienced members of my team. This has resulted in me being given the responsibility to mentor new starters who have joined the business. The mentoring involves teaching new starters how to use Gallagher Bassett systems, client systems, and guiding them in claims handling. Currently, I am mentoring two team members who have recently advanced to level 4 and are learning to handle personal injury claims.

One of my proudest moments at Gallagher Bassett was receiving the Chelmsford branch 'Go Beyond' award in 2023. This recognition from my colleagues highlighted my dedication and willingness to go the extra mile.

What sets Gallagher Bassett apart is its 'can do' attitude and agility in meeting client requirements. The people I work with maintain high motivation levels and foster a positive atmosphere.
